Oscar

Oscar was named by Dr Ian Whyte’s grandchildren (Timothy and Christopher Whitfield), who saw him regularly en route to school between Tshokwane and Skukuza in South Africa. One of his special features was a shallow tear in right ear at the top of the ear lobe.
A carcass with similar ivory was found in the Tshokwane section of the Kruger National Park at the Metsi Metsi windmill, it is assumed that this is Oscar as very little was known about this bull.
Dr Ian Whyte completed his Ph.D at the University of Pretoria with a thesis titled “The Conservation Management of Elephants in the Kruger National Park”. He retired recently after 37 years dedicated service to the Kruger National Park.
