Ahmed
Ahmed of Marsabit was and still is the most famous elephant ever to have roamed the African continent.
Born in 1919 from the forests of Mount Marsabit, Ahmed grew to become an elephant giant often referred to as “King of Marsabit”.
In order to protect him from poachers, former President of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, placed Ahmed under his protection by an exceptional presidential decree in 1970; Ahmed was watched over day and night by two hunters against poachers.
Since his death in 1974, Ahmed has been remembered for his majestic appearance and a life-size replica was built in front of the Kenya National Museum in Nairobi.
